And to get the brand new era off to a good start, an explanation of why we failed that should reassure the fans:

I wish Barron would just fuck off

If this is true then Hodcroft is proving to be the world's most ridiculously stubborn twat we always thought he was... and proves once and for all that he does not give two fucks about the fans of Hartlepool United

Ah well, when they sell only half last season's season ticket total, they will probably genuinely wonder why

Oh and Barron - there IS a massive difference between the clubs at the top and at the bottom... if you don't know this - then it's the final proof you are a clown who should be nowhere near the football club

PS I am genuinely depressed at the prospect of no change at the club. The club is slowly dying and the people running it don't seem to give a fuck

Of course, everyone is quite entitled to do what they want with their money and quite entitlked to opinions etc, but youve no idea how much is saddens me to read of "long term Poolies" like Parmo and Ripper laying into HUFC at every opportunity, not attending matches, not buying S/Ts etc.

Its not like these chaps (both I'd class as good "Pools Mates" over the years) are brand new to Relegation, bad times, eras of struggle etc. Christ, I've seen Parmo at games with less than 50 or so Pools fans there many times. That Red Sierra overtook me on the M1 more times in the 80s and 90s than any Cop Car did.

What the fuck have Pools done to peoples psyche in the last 12 months? Sad to the point of depression here...

Well I am already there. At that point, and beyond, where I didnt want to go to games.

Not sure what brought it on to be honest. I suspect it has more to do with family issues, but may be not.

What I dont quite understand though is this:

If John Hughes stays, and he deserves to, and he is happy with Michael barron and Ritchie Humphreys, then surely he deserves support and backing?

A lot of what has been said about Barron and Humphreys is just internet talk, and nonsense, some of which has become urban legend.

The truth is out there, but it may not be to the bunkers liking.

So if Hughes stays and we go back up, will everyone forgive Barron and Humphreys?

I would say, having had a FAIRLY close "Line In" to HUFC over the past three seasons, that the stuff surrounding Humphreys and Barron is 100% rubbish.

Family issues are another thing. I know both Mick and Kev have young families and thats probably a part of it. I know I missed a LOT of games in 92-94.

Trouble is, where does that leave our Young Uns? Where does that leave the future fanbase of HUFC? Its all very, very sad.

I've gone from;
not intending to buy a season ticket without major changes including the coaching staff, to
probably buying one after they announced the season ticket prices at £150, to
definitely buying one after a chat with RG, to
undecided after reading stuff from the likes of Barron over the last few days.

Yes, family stuff plays a part in it and yes, even if I didn't buy a season ticket I'd probably be at at least the first few matches of next season to see how things were going and then take it from there.

The undecided stuff over whether to buy or not will probably be confirmed when I see the retained list to be honest. Ok, if they're not changing the coaching set up fair enough but I'm buggered if I can justify spending every other Saturday watching the same old group of players essentially going through the motions for another season.

I said elsewhere the other day that there is a chance that Barron is unfairly being made an Escape Goat for things this season, due partly to the fact that he's been here for much longer than Hughes and also because people subconsciously don't want to criticise Cooper too much. Personally my worries about Barron stem purely from one incident of seeing and hearing him telling Flinders to launch the ball upfield to absolutely nobody about 12 months ago. I think I need to try and overlook this a little bit if he is going to be staying.

In all walks of life people learn from their mistakes, and change their philosophies to suit.

Maybe 12 months ago Barron thought that was the best option. Maybe he didnt trust the players to do anything else?

Who knows.

Michael Barron and Ritchie Humphreys have been loyal to HUFC for a long time now, and that only seems to work against them sadly.

P.S. I don't think it's fair to suggest that I'm "laying into HUFC at every opportunity" as over the last 12 months or so I've been a lot more supportive, positive and fair in my comments about the club than most people whose opinions I've read on messageboards.

Nah sorry mate that read wrong. I meant long-term Poolies LIKE Parmo and Ripper, in that there are long-term Pools fans (like you two) laying into Pools etc etc...you know what I mean ...

You two are by FAR not the worst, but its you two that sadden me the most, as you are typical "Dyed In The Wool Poolies" of my approximate age group and I know you both reasonably well.

Some of my Dads mates (who started going in the mid-FIFTIES!!) are far, far worse lately.

Why is it though? What has happened to make so many people feel this way?

Is it more to do with Football generally rather than Pools. and Pools suffer because of it?

I hate football at the top level now, or rather the money in it.

Even comments like those made at the weekend by that Geordie muppet taylor have pissed me off.

He said that losing 6-0 was the same as a death in family. REALLY?

You thick geordie wanker.

By the way, I'll tell you who I would respect MASSIVELY more given the right announcement from Pools would be Steve Howard if it was announced that his contract was being terminated by mutual agreement (not a pay off, just him being released). He made it quite clear in an interview the other week that he didn't want to be at Pools and that he thought he should be playing at a higher level so why doesn't he just go in and say that he's prepared to tear his contract up if Pools will let him (which I'm led to believe that they'd welcome).

well I would be happier if Pools said the were releasing him as playing that style of football to the big plank up front is so out of date, that we dont want his sort at the club.

That would work for me.

The thing is though Mr Dibs is that he's under contract for next season, hence why it would be good if he agreed to just fuck off rather than Pools having to either keep him or pay him to fuck off.

I really don't know if Barron is any good as a coach or not but he is total rubbish at analysing performances if he thinks there wasn't much difference between Pools and the teams at the top and that all our defeats were by fine margins.
Unless you are Newcastle, defeats nearly always are marginal. But good teams get more marginal results going their way than bad teams do because they are ... er ... better.
And they don't go twenty fucking games without a win. Or another eight without scoring. Fine margins don't lose you matches all frigging season long.

He'd better get the idea out of his head that we're only a midge's dick from being world beaters or else the Conference will beckon. I'd be much more confident if he said we've a long way to go to get back to the team we were in 2005.

Jesus wept man Phil - the team has just recorded its two worst ever home seasons and you are genuinely wondering why we aren't happy? You rate Humphreys as a player - I think he's absolutely woeful and not even in the best 50 ever Pools players, if even in the top 100, on ability. He's one of the reasons we have been so awful - I go to watch a team that has a go at attacking at home.

Even the 93/94 team managed something like 8 or 9 home wins

And the people who have a say in the running of team affairs need scattering cos their judgement is crap

And it's not just me and Ripper whop are saying it - Chip Fireball is one who more or less echoes everything I've said !! And Derwent - and Snowy - long suffering Poolies... who are quite right to state that they are not happy at sudffering people like Humphreys on the park any more because we simply should not have to with the current owners

You simply refuse to see another point of view!!!

Mick, I'm sorry you've read it like that, I most certainly DO see another point of view. The fact that it saddens me so much means I must be seeing it, surely??? Where am I wondering why you arent happy?? Where have I rated Humphreys as a player?

Calm down.

apologies for taking it the wrong way, it seems me and Rip were being singled out for it!!!!!!
But there's a reason for what we say - To quote Snowy in a roundabout way - We have finally as a group of fans got off our knees and stopped doffing our caps to the other clubs in the lower leagues - and for Pools to deliberately stand still while other clubs try to get better and strive to improve, quite rightly is exasperating the fans.... the club has to think more about its fan base and far less about the people it employs
